“A Choice to Make” an Architect Short Film

A short film about being an architect and my struggle to pursue a more creative life. This story is your story too because these are challenges we all face. How do we make the most of our short time here? How do we ensure we’re doing the work that makes us most happy? How do we reconcile our need to feel necessary, useful, and creative with the financial reality of making a living, supporting ourselves and our families?

Four years ago, I made the decision to part ways with the traditional practice of architecture in search of something more rewarding. I left behind a salary and good friends. I left a job that supported my family but left me creatively unfulfilled. Without a long client list or a Rolodex full of contacts, and no familial connections to funnel work my way I began experimenting. I did anything and everything I could to feed my creative intellect.

I made things, each and every day. Most of what I made failed, but I took note of the ones that didn’t and learned from them. I persisted and kept making. I continued to reevaluate what being an architect might look like; what it meant to me.

I found the traditional definition of practice stifling. I wasn’t content doing only one thing. Of course, I loved architecture deeply, but I also wanted to pursue writing and photography, video editing and sketching, model making and paper cutting, book publishing, marketing and interior design.

As my definition of what being an architect meant expanded to include all these things I discovered this deep well of creative freedom that traditional practice – for me – had been lacking.

Is my path the right one for everyone? Of course not. Is this expanded definition of a creative life perfect or unfailing? Hardly. But, experimenting has brought me closer than ever to my childhood vision of what a fulfilling life might look like.

Each day is a new experiment in making. And this short film? That’s an experiment too. I made it with you in mind. To empower you to go find the things that make you feel most alive, most fulfilled, the things that bring you happiness.

This channel is possible because of you – my friends and viewers. I hope you’ll share your story in the comments below and together we can broaden the definition of what it means to live a fulfilling, creative life.

Pashi (2017): Review with Short Film Trailer (Selected for Oscar)

An independent filmmaker based in Shimla Siddharth Chauhan’s short film ‘Pashi’ has been selected for the Rhode Island International Film Festival— an Oscar qualifying film festival.

Chauhan, 27, had previously won the Satyajit Ray Short Film Award at the London Indian Film Festival recently for his short film ‘Papa’.

Speaking about ‘Pashi’, Chauhan said, “The film has been selected to compete at the Rhode Island International Film Festival which is scheduled to be held in August in the United States.”

“Since this is an Oscar qualifying film festival, if the short film wins an award therein, Pashi will be directly nominated for the Academy Awards for the best short film category,” he added.

He added that this will the film’s first international premiere and that Pashi is the only film from India to have been selected this year.

The word ‘pashi’ means a trap in the Pahari dialect spoken in Rohru region of Shimla district and is an ancient technique used by villagers for hunting birds and animals.

“Chauhan said his childhood memories in his village Dhanoti inspired him to make this film.”

The story is about a young boy (Chetan), who learns about the hunting technique from his old grandmother (Savitri) and starts practicing it. His friend (John) encourages him while his mother is worried about his future.

The film was primarily shot in Sunta Lodge, a wooden mansion in Khalwan village. Some parts were however filmed in Dhanoti village neat Tikker.

Chetan Kanwar, a Class-12 student at Chapslee School, Shimla and John Negi, a model-cum-actor from Rampur have played the lead roles. Besides, Kamayani Bisht, a professor of English and Savitri Devi Sunta also feature in the film.

The story is about a young boy (Chetan) who is excited about having learned the technique of trapping birds from his old grandmother (Savitri). His friend John is an accomplice in the fun the duo have but Chetan’s mother is worried about his future.

The filmmaker has drawn inspiration from his childhood memories spent at his native village Dhanoti in Nawar Valley of Rohru to make this short film. The film is shot in the backdrop of the valleys native villages.

The festival is an official Oscar Qualifying Film Festival and Pashi is the only film from India to be have been selected for this prestigious festival this year.

An award winning film at this festival gets a nomination for competing at the Academy Awards for the Best Short Film category, also known as the Oscar Awards, the world’s most prestigious awards for film making.

    About of filmmaker

Siddharth Chauhan, born in 1990, is an award-winning Indian independent filmmaker from Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. He was awarded the “Youth Achiever” award by Hindustan Times Group in August 2014. Chauhan has not received any professional training in this field. His films have been screened across countries including Sarajevo, England, the US, Belarus, Indonesia, New Zealand, Italy, and France. Presenting the official poster of #Carbon.” The film also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Jackky revealed the first look on the 13th July at IIFA 2017 in New York.

“As an actor and producer, the only way I know how to communicate with audiences is through the film. Carbon deals with serious environmental issues like Global Warming & Climate Change and their impact on our world. As a citizen of this planet, I think it’s time we stop talking and start doing. Carbon is my attempt at creating awareness and I’m thankful to IIFA for giving me this platform,” Jackky told reporters at IIFA.

Carbon is written and directed by Maitrey Bajpai and Rameez Khan. The film is co-produced, Deepshikha Deshmukh. The film also stars Prachi Desai and Yashpal Sharma. Carbon is a film set in future in 2067. Jackky Bhagnani will play the role of a man with artificial heart and Nawazuddin will portray the character of a man from Mars. “When Jackky and the team came to me with the script, I was very kicked with the idea of playing a guy who lives on Mars. And the fact that the film has its heart in the right place and makes all the right noises about environmental issues, was reason enough for me say yes right away,” Nawaz told reporters.

“You should never, ever, under any circumstances, underestimate how much Dwayne Johnson can get done in a day with Siri. Follow the world’s busiest actor and Siri as they dominate the day. Learn more about Siri at http://siri.com”

Dwayne Johnson and Apple unveiled a mini-movie/short film via a worldwide launch today teaming the action star with the tech company’s Siri voice assistant “http://siri.com”, which has been jostling with Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant in the marketplace. It’s already at 7.4 million views on Apple’s YouTube channel and is being shared on Johnson’s formidable social media channels, where he started promoting it two day’s ago.

The 3 minutes, 45-second commercial, dubbed “The Rock x Siri Dominate The Day,” is a take on Johnson’s typical day and plays off his “hardest-working man in Hollywood” image: He practices movie lines while working out and trimming a Bonsai tree; “takes” a Lyft to the airport to fly a plane to Rome, dabbles in a space walk, and makes it back for his big scene all with the help of Siri on his iPhone 7.

Working in conjunction with Apple, The Rock teams up with Siri in “The Rock x Siri Dominate the Day” on YouTube. In the free mini-movie, you can watch The Great One and Siri take on everything, including movie sets, aviation, culinary prowess, and space (yes, space!) as the two attempt to dominate the day!
